Installation Tips
This guide provides helpful tips to ensure a smooth installation experience when enrolling your first device. Most installations complete quickly, but following these recommendations can help avoid common issues.
Use the Correct Installer
Always confirm that the installer matches the device’s operating system, architecture, and, where applicable, distribution type.
Using the wrong installer is the most common cause of failed or incomplete installations.
Run With Administrative Privileges
Installers require elevated permissions to install system-level components.
On Windows, run the installer as an administrator. On macOS and Linux, ensure you are using an account with sufficient privileges.
Allow Security Prompts
Some operating systems may display security or permission prompts during installation.
These prompts are required for the agent to function properly and should be approved when requested.
Ensure Internet Connectivity
The device must be able to access the Internet during and after installation.
Outbound access on ports 80 and 443 must be available so the agent can register and report status.
Avoid Interrupting the Installer
Do not close the installer or power off the device while installation is in progress.
Interrupting the process can result in a partial installation that may need to be cleaned up before retrying.
Restart if Needed
In some cases, a reboot may be required after installation to fully activate services.
If prompted to restart, complete the reboot before checking the Dashboard.
If Installation Does Not Complete
If the installer does not appear to complete or the device does not show up afterward, review the troubleshooting section for guidance.
Most installation issues can be resolved quickly by confirming installer compatibility and network access.
