Running the Installer

This guide explains how to run an installer on your first device. The exact steps vary slightly depending on the operating system, but the goal is the same on all platforms: install the agent so the device can enroll and begin reporting.

Before starting, confirm that you are using the correct installer for the device’s operating system and architecture.

Running the Installer on Windows

On Windows systems, installers are typically provided as executable or MSI files.

To run the installer:

  • Download the installer to the device.
  • Right-click the installer file and select Run as administrator.
  • If prompted by User Account Control (UAC), confirm that you want to allow the installer to make changes.

The installer will run silently or with minimal prompts. Once it completes, the agent will start automatically.

Running the Installer on macOS

On macOS systems, installers are typically provided as package files.

To run the installer:

  • Download the installer to the device.
  • Double-click the installer file to begin installation.
  • If prompted, enter administrator credentials to allow the installation.

macOS may display security prompts for system extensions or background services. These prompts must be approved for the agent to function correctly.

Running the Installer on Linux

On Linux systems, installers are typically run from the command line.

To run the installer:

  • Download the installer to the device.
  • Open a terminal window.
  • Ensure the installer file has execute permissions.
  • Run the installer using a command with elevated privileges.

Because Linux distributions vary, the exact command may differ. The installer instructions provided with the download should be followed for the specific distribution.

During Installation

While the installer is running, the agent is being installed and registered with your Organization.

In most cases, no user interaction is required beyond approving permissions. The process typically completes within a few minutes.

After Installation Completes

Once installation finishes, the agent starts automatically and begins communicating with the platform.

The device should appear on the Dashboard shortly after installation.

If the device does not appear after several minutes, review the troubleshooting section for guidance on next steps.
