What an Installer Does

An installer is the mechanism used to enroll devices into your Organization. Running an installer on a device installs the management agent and automatically applies the correct configuration and protection settings.

Installers are designed to make device onboarding simple and consistent, without requiring manual setup or technical configuration.

What Happens When an Installer Runs

When you run an installer on a device, several things happen automatically:

  • The device is registered with your Organization.
  • The management agent is installed and started.
  • Security and maintenance policies are applied.
  • Monitoring and reporting begin automatically.

No additional steps are required on the device after the installer completes.

Installers Are Organization-Specific

Each installer is tied to a specific Organization.

This ensures that devices are enrolled into the correct environment and receive the appropriate features and policies.

An installer generated for one Organization cannot be used to enroll devices into a different Organization.

Installers Are Platform-Specific

Installers are created for specific operating systems and, in some cases, specific architectures.

Using the correct installer for the device’s operating system and architecture is required for successful installation.

Reusable and Easy to Share

Installers can be reused across multiple devices of the same type.

You can download an installer once and use it to onboard any number of compatible devices without regenerating it each time.

What Comes Next

In the next steps of the setup guide, you will generate your first installer and use it to enroll a device.

Once an installer is created, device onboarding becomes a fast and repeatable process.
